Jake and Johnnie on Fire

At yesterday’s Sunday Soccer Game(s) at Polideportivo los Culhuacanes 14 guys from 7 different countries played several games for two hours. This time we divided the teams into a Mexican Team and an international Team with players from France, Spain, El Salvador, Germany, Mexico, Australia and England. With Unai from Basque Country and Marcos from Mexico we were happy to welcome 2 newcomers that were part of the international Team. Another positive fact was that Johnnie, one of the guys that has been part of the very first games in Culhuacanes made his comeback. This time Hazael brought the water for both teams.

Mexico vs Team International

In the first game Mexico started of more decisive putting Team International under constant pressure. Soon they managed to score the first goal of the day. After a short break Team International found better into the game and managed to score the equalizer. A very competitive but always friendly game developed with goals on both sides. Alberto with the goal of the day, Fer and Hazael scored for Mexico, while Ben, Pablo, Unai and Jake scored for Team International. Jake (who had on constant smile on his face throughout the whole time and who pretty much finished every sentence with “its coming home” due to the current world cup in which his country England is doing very well) was on fire in the first game. He scored no less than 5 goals and was therefore the major contributor for the 7:4 victory of Team International.

The second game we played at pitch number one. The teams remained unchanged as Team Mexico wanted to have their revenge. And they made use of it. While Team International seemed to be pleased with their first victory and also more tired in general, Team Mexico put in more effort to win the second game. With Hazael in the goal they decided to have a fixed goalkeeper, which also happened to be a positive factor. Many goals where scored during the second game. The guy who stood out was newcomer Johnnie who took shots from any angle with his right or with his left foot. Johnnie himself scored 4 goals making sure his team would win this time. Angel, Erick and Fer helped Johnnie creating the chances, while Luis and Alberto took charge of the defence of their team. Team Mexico won 6:5. Johnnie was voted MVP of the day due to his relentless effort of always wanting to score a goal. Even though he has not played for over 2 months he showed himself in very good shape. Congratulations Johnnie!

At the end both teams won one game each, scoring in total 22 goals. This coming weekend we will have most likely two games. One 11 a side game at Benito Juarez on Saturday and the Sunday Game at Polideportivo los Culhuacanes as usual. Further information will be announced. We wish newcomer Johnnie all the best for his operation this Wednesday. He is certainly a key player in our group as a player and as a person.
