From Hawaii to MVP

As many guys in Mexico City know by now: Sunday is Soccer Day!
After having played a glorious 11-a-side game against the soccer team from Uber many international people met up last Sunday to play soccer and have some fun.
One of the guys that made his come back after having spent 3 weeks in the paradise of Hawaii, surfing at Waikiki beach every day, got voted MVP of the day straight away. US-boy Andrew deserved the title due to his relentless effort to keep the defense of his team stable. In the first game he focused on not giving left-winger Jake any space and winning most of the duels. Naturally as a US American he has a very physical playing style.

Team Blue vs Team Dark: Manni and Andrew in action

Striker Edward scores and goes to Kenya for a few weeks

But first things first: It seemed like some of the players have set up the teams before because half of the guys turned up in blue and the other half turned up in black (besides Max). That made the team selection quite easy. “Team black” had the better start and opened the score line with a “golazo” from Max (FRA) who played with his new shoes that made the difference for his game. Edward (KEN) however had the answer for “team blue” scoring the equalizer not long after. Always-scoring Edward is leaving to Africa this week for 3 weeks. Unfortunately we will not see him for the time being at the games but we wish him a great stay with his family and friends back home and welcome him with open arms when he returns. See you soon Edward!
In the second half Ben even brought team blue in the leading position when he scored the 2:1. But Jake (ENG) with a freekick (his expertise), Manni-Mourinho (IND) and Kim (GER) made sure team black would be the winner of the game with their scores that let to a 4:2 score. The highlight of the game was Jake and his interference with an old lady that seemed to have gotten an hard attack when he went for a shot aiming at the cashier of the Superama. Unfortunately, the car of the old lady stopped the ball from entering the supermarket, which is why Jake had to listen to the furious poor woman for 5 minutes before she was willing to return the ball. Good thing is he did not understand anything. Back on the pitch we started the 3rd half of the game since we got some extra time left where Jake and Damien (FRA) scored additional goals for team black.

Goals: Max (1:0), Edward (1:1), Ben (2:1), Jake (2:2), Manni (2:3), Kim (2:4), Jake (2:5), Damien (2:6)

After Game Drinks in Coyoacán

For the second game we moved to pitch 1 which saved us having to run for the ball every other minute. Andrew and Ben captained the newly created teams, with Banano playing for Andrew’s team. In one of the attacks Luis (MEX) unintendedly almost knocked out keeper Banano when he scored together with Alberto the first goal. Banano was on the ground for several minutes not being sure if he had one of his crazy hangovers or if someone just ran over him. Our first goalkeeper however could continue the game but he had to accept to let four more goals into the net: Kim, Ben (AUS), Damien and Manni scored for Ben’s team.

After the game some of the players went to Coyoacán for some drinks AND some food that had to be purchased for every drink ordered due to election day, quite an interesting and alien concept for the foreign players.
